THE SOUNDS OF MUSIC PROGRAM
The
“Sound of Music” Program was designed and implemented by Golden Key
McGill members for Bancroft elementary School, and under funded public
school that lost its arts education program as a result of budget cuts
and resource constraints. Golden Key McGill wanted to help close these
resource gaps and provide Bancroft’s student body with an introduction
to musical education, music, and arts appreciation. The
Sounds of Music Program organizes classes comprised of sing along and
simple instrument play-backs. Each music class runs for 40 minutes,
targeting one grade-level at a time. The music materials are directed
towards the particular grade-levels musical knowledge and
comprehension. The
Sound of Music Program also helps Bancroft Elementary co-ordinate their
annual, year end Christmas Concert, which is always looked forward to
as a huge annual success. In the words of the 2006 Sound of Music Committee leader, “Music
can feed the mind as well as the soul. Those of us participating in the
sounds of Music program share an innate love of music that we pass onto
the students at Bancroft Elementary School. We realize that not all
children have the opportunity to extensively learn about music and so
the Sounds of Music program is our way to bring music into their lives.” Time Commitment: 1.5 hours a week. Contact Information: Program Head: Michael Coussa-Charley
